We have made the difificult decision not to attend this year’s London International Book Fair in light of the rapidly emerging coronoavirus outbreak. As veterans of many book fairs, we have seen how they can be fertile ground for transmission of ordinary coughs and colds, and had no desire to spend three days in close quarters with thousands of travellers from all over the globe with fear of the novel coronavirus looming over proceedings. While the risk may still be small, it’s surely higher than average, and no book fair meeting is worth dying for.
While government advice is not yet to cancel large public gatherings, it seems safe to say that no-one who works for Public Health England really understands the unique dynamics of a busy book fair, and we had hoped for more common sense from the organisers.
We have contacted all clients with whom meetings were arranged to make alternative plans. We are available to speak, Skype or Zoom with any client at any time!
UPDATE, 4TH MARCH: London Book Fair 2020 has now been cancelled – we think this is the right result. Existing or new clients, please don’t hesitate to contact us to discuss alternative ways of catching up.
